Five feet apart is a book that shone the light on a serious and all too real disease, Cystic Fibrosis. Following the story of two teens with CF who are told to stay six feet away from each other or risk death. But when their connection makes this feel like an impossible taks they take back some space, one foot, so that their hearts don't become as broken as their lungs.
With such a serious and important topic the film had a lot to live up too. Casting Haley Lu Richardson, from edge of seventeen and Cole Sprouse, from Riverdale, as Stella and Will was a great choice. The actors brought the characters from book onto the screen without losing any of what we loved from the book. I think the adaptation benefited from the fact the book isn't that long. Many times films cut out scenes from the book that are really missed but not this time, the script stays true to the story.
The film keeps the compelling and heart breaking romance that will keep viewers fixed on the screen throughout.
